Horrahhh!

Thank god itunes developed homesharing. I swear this featured saved me hours and hours of work. I was so not anticipating transferring all of my 6,954 songs from my old dell to my new macbook pro (i've been totally geekin' out since I got it in the mail!). This makes music sharing so easy, just point and click! Alright, well to celebrate the easy music system I have, go listen to The Asteroids Galaxy Tour or Anya Marina since those are two of artists that have already been transfered to my new computer!

Apology

My sincerest apologizes for the abondonment of this poor blog,

I hope within the next couple of weeks I can rebirth this blog into something worth reading (or just looking through). The past couple months have been exhaustingly stressful and a bit hazy. Between work, trying for scholarships, preparing for college and taking time to have fun to have fun, I haven't had many minutes to devote to the small things I cherish, like this blog right here here. I'm once again excited to post catching images and songs, quirky ideas and childish rants. Wish me luck.

Oh yeah, I cut my hair and I shaved my head, a bit different.

also, I suppose I'm officially out of the closet

Woohoo! alright, now that that's out of the way, here are some things I've been collecting:

Rejoicing in the Hands - Devendra Banhart
cool as shit music website by the way.

THIS amazing interactive beat boxing website

and Mika, and everything about him

I will see you soon

That Time

Hey remember the time when I found a human tooth down on Delancey
Hey remember that time we decided to kiss anywhere except the mouth
Hey remember that time when my favorite colors were pink and green
Hey remember that month when I only ate boxes of tangerines
So cheap and juicy, tangerines

Hey remember that time when I would only read Shakespeare

Hey remember that other time when I would only read the backs of cereal boxes
Hey remember that time I tried to save a pigeon with a broken wing
A street cat got him by morning and I had to bury pieces of his body in my building's playground
I thought I was going to be sick, I thought I was going to be sick

Hey remember that time when I would only smoke Parliaments

Hey remember that time when I would only smoke Marlboros
Hey remember that time when I would only smoke Camels
Hey remember that time when I was broke
I didn't care I just bummed from my friends
Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum...

Hey remember that time when you O.D'ed

Hey remember that other time when you O.D'ed for the second time
Well in the waiting room while waiting for news of you I hallucinated I could read your mind
And I was on a lot of shit too but what I saw, man, I tell you it was freaky, freaky

Things I Learned on July 19th, 2009

  • 7 am is a good time to travel from Baltimore to Ocean City on Sundays
  • Drinking a large coffee before a road trip will lead to many pit-stops
  • It is important to bring gas money- lots of gas money
  • A good music playlist is essential in order to have a good road trip
  • A driver is lucky to get a parking spot on the Oceanside of Costal Highway, very lucky
  • One should bring an ipod, a book or a friend to occupy their time spent out of the water
  • Don’t forget to apply, re-apply and re-re-apply sunscreen
  • Places like the backs of hands, tops of feet, lips and ears are often forgotten when applying sunscreen
  • If you have gauges, you will most likely loose one, if not both while body-surfing, but things like pen caps can make appropriate substitute gauges
  • It is smart to bring an extra set of clothes when going to the beach. You never know when you’ll have to change
  • Always check for things like vomit before swimming in a pool
  • It is never good to accidentally bump into a car, especially when the owner of said car is a bitchy old pro golf employee. She will call the cops
  • The police in Ocean City have better things to do than waste their time on accident reports
  • 6:30 pm is not a good time to travel from Ocean City to Baltimore on Sundays
  • Avoid listening to calming music while driving home exhausted, this will only make you want to sleep
  • Don’t listen to the navigational device "TomTom" when trying to find the fastest route home. The monotonous machine will take you on six different highways and through the city, ultimately taking you on the most sketchy and longest route possible
  • Bad things happen in three's
  • Driving home at ten o’clock when you haven’t slept in 34 hours is not good. Your vision will start to fail and you won’t be able to keep your head straight

Wizard Rock

Wizard Rock is a genre of music solely based off of J.K. Rowling’s famous series Harry Potter. Frequently playing at Harry Potter Conventions and available on itunes, bands like Harry and the Potters and Gred and Forge have written many songs about the Harry Potter universe. Quickly after reading the series (unlike many, I only read the Harry Potter books a couple months ago) I came across a whole area of music that I had never heard of- Wizard Rock. One would think the music would be silly or childish, since J.K. Rowling’s books are in the children’s section at most book stores, and don’t get me wrong, many songs are silly, but they’re actually catchy. I find myself humming wizard rock songs during the day without even realizing it. When I first found out about wizard rock I went searching itunes for more bands and found many, including The Parselmouths, Oliver Boyd And The Remembralls, Draco and The Malfoys and The Moaning Myrtles. Some songs are serious, but most are extremely humorous, including songs from my favorite wizard rock band, The Whomping Willows. With song titles like “I’ve had Harry Potter Inside Me”, “Ginny Gets Around”, “Voldemort Can’t Stop the Rock”, and “Dobby, Bang Your Head” how could you go wrong?

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

p.s. go to itunes and listen to songs like "The House Called Awesome Theme Song", "Brotherly Love" and "In Which Draco and Harry Secretly Want to Make Out" (hehe) . Project Playlist didn't have a wide variety.

Beck - Girl

I saw her, yeah I saw her
with her black tongue tied round the roses
fists pounding on a vending machine
toy diamond ring stuck on her finger
with a noose she could hang from the sun
and put it out with her dark sunglasses
walking crooked down the beach
she spits in the sand where their bones are bleaching
and I know I'm gonna steal her eye
she doesn't even know what's wrong
and I know I'm gonna make her die
take her where her soul belongs
and I know I'm gonna steal her eye
nothing that I wouldn't try
Hey, my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl
I saw her, yeah I saw her
with her hands tied back and her rags were burning
crawling out from a landfilled life
scrawlin her name upon the ceiling
throw a coin in a fountain of dust
white noise, her ears are ringing
got a ticket for a midnight hanging
throw a bullet from a freight train leaving
and I know I'm gonna steal her eye
she doesn't even know what's wrong
and I know I'm gonna make her die
take her where her soul belong
and I know I'm gonna steal her eye
nothing that I wouldn't try
Hey, my cyanide girl

I love Beck, and I love this song, but while looking up the lyrics i've found that the music completely contrasts the words. The song is very upbeat and happy sounding while the lyrics are pretty creepy. With pepped up beats and a catchy chorus, a first-time listener would probably not notice how dark and sinister the lyrics actually are. While listening, i for one believe the line "my cyanide girl" to be "my sun-eyed girl", also i thought "I know I'm gonna make her die" was actually "I know I'm gonna make her mine".

I feel like this song could be so many different things for the different people who listen to it since it's so ambiguous. One person could just hear it as a poppy summer song to jam out to in the car while another could see that it's about an ex who's life has fallen out and she wants her boyfriend back. Yet, another person could look at it straight forward and see that it's about a stalker torturing a girl and leaving her to die ("with her hands tied back and her rags were burning/crawling out from a landfilled life").

So, whether you hear the pop beats and happy music, or listen to the spine-chilling lyrics of Beck's Girl, I hope you find some kind of meaning or enjoyment out of this awesome song, because I know I did.
